Hi Everyone,
Looks like we have the option of having grade-level meetings on Monday. I would like to have additional Smart Board training, but it looks like it's the basic course I took at the beginning of the summer. Who's interested in meeting Monday afternoon (I'm assuming we can make this decision.)? I'd be happy to host it at Highview. Steve has a/c in his room.

First Week
I hope everyone had a great first week. It was crazy for me. Smart Board, student teacher, 3/4 split, my daughter's first week away at school. Steve and I are going to start changing classes next week. I'm going to attempt to teach geography to my third and fourth graders together until the Michigan books come in. I'm going to have my students bring in pictures from places they've visited around the world. I have cut our old Michigan, US, and world maps from the metal frame and I put the pictures on the maps. Steve and I did some planning with Mackenzie and Shauna. We'll be getting together again soon. If any Kinloch teachers want to join the mix, I'll post when and where we will be meeting.

First Week
So, did everyone make it through the first days of school? As exhausted as I am, I think it will be a pretty good year (I hope!) I still cannot believe the whole split classes though. Christine has 5 third graders and the rest are second! Such an unsound decision on the admin's part, if you ask me.... Funny when I look out at the first lunch recess and see 5 really tall kids in the midst of many bitty ones! Oh well! So, I wish you all a great rest of the week.

Social Studies Books
Hey y'all!
I got an e-mail from Dr. Klee in response to my question about our social studies books and guess what???? He thought they were in and when he called the publisher it turns out that our rep quit and didn't place our order before leaving...sweet. Anyway, they should be in before the end of the month. I'm thinking of starting with some geography. I have a copy of the student text and wouldn't mind copying the first unit if you're interested (this is probably illegal...oops).

Hello
Just to let you know 2/3 splitteacher is Christine Zierau. I created that name for a class I'm currently taking. I'm still a split because I haven't heard otherwise. I'm surprised to hear the Smartboard stuff isn't installed yet since the equipment was at school before we left. School has been the last thing on my mind to be honest, probably because I'm wrestling with how to approach the Split....on one hand you want to teach "up" but how is that fair to the 2nd graders who will get a repeat of 3rd? I've been through most of the GLCE, many are the same in language arts, Science/Social Studies are quite different, need to check out math. Plymouth Canton has given up their week long February break so that they can get out earlier in June due to the late Labor Day. That is all the information I have. I'll check out Mrs. Pancake...thanks. See you all soon enough.

Welcome Fellow Third Grade Teachers!
I'm stealing this idea from fourth grade. I know a lot of us have Facebook, but we can't access it at school. We have a great group of third grade teachers and this could be a fun way to share ideas. It seems that we are all a little overwhelmed with the new science and social studies, maybe collaborating accross the district will help. Maybe we can share some planning and projects...divide and conquer!
